Bent Wheel Bash 2017 Random Items

Before you head out our way for the race this weekend, here’s a few things to remember:

  1. Bring cash, if you can, for the gate fees. We will be able to take cards closer to the buildings, but not at the gate.
  2. The Specialized Demo Van will open up Saturday at noon. Make sure to give yourself enough time to try out some of their newest bikes.
  3. The Toasted Traveler food truck will be open on Saturday from 4-7 and on Sunday from 10-3. Try out their delicious sandwiches!
  4. BikeTown will have a booth set up with some clearance clothing for sale…shorts, jerseys, gloves…come ready to shop.
  5. Bent Wheel Bash t-shirts will be on sale in the registration building for $15. All proceeds benefit the Abilene Police Department.
  6. The weather forecast is looking pretty good, but this is March in West Texas so be prepared for anything, especially a bit of wind.

It’s going to be a great weekend. We can’t wait to see you at Bent Wheel Bash 2017!

Camping, Gate Fees, Food, Etc.

Bent Wheel Bash in Abilene is coming up soon. We hope everyone is making plans to travel out to our neck of the woods! Come on out early if you can and check out the Specialized Demo Van. They will be set up at the venue on Saturday, March 4, from noon to 5 pm. They have a variety of bikes on their van that you will be able to test out. Come on out and see what they have to offer!

This year, our food vendor will be set up on Saturday from 4-7 and on Sunday from 10:00-4. So go preride the course on Saturday and then grab some dinner at the food truck afterward. You can do the same on Sunday. Grab a bite after the race while you are waiting for awards. The Toasted Traveler is the local food truck that will be set up for the event. You can check them out at http://www.abilenefoodtruck.com.

Camping and RV spots are available – no reservations necessary. There are no hookups, but generators are allowed and showers are available. Propane grills are fine, but the Police Academy asks that there be no open fires. For those who haven’t been to Bent Wheel Bash before, Buck Creek Trails is right next to our local police academy, and the academy allows us to use their land and buildings (and showers!) for our start/finish, expo, and camping area.

Of course, there is always the question of land access fees. We know that Abilene is a bit further for most people to drive, so we try to keep fees down. The land use fee is $10 PER CAR (not per person), so pack everyone in and carpool if you can! We only charge once, so if you come out on Friday, that $10 fee covers the whole weekend. Camping spots are $20 per site for one night or $30 for both nights. So, if you drive out on Friday and camp both nights, the most you will pay in land use/camping fees for one car is $40. We do ask that you bring cash (or check) for the gate fees. The internet access can be a bit spotty for us to take cards. The registration area is a little better, but cash over debit/credit will be much faster. The nice part about the fees (if there can be a nice part about paying fees) is that all the proceeds from Bent Wheel Bash go to our local police department.

If camping isn’t your thing, but you need to spend the night somewhere, here is a list of some hotels close to the trails. If one of these won’t work, just look for one close to Abilene Christian University in the NE corner of Abilene, and you will be just minutes from Buck Creek Trails. We hope to see a bunch of you in Abilene soon!

Gate Fees, Etc.

Please bring cash (checks are fine, too) for the gate fees, t-shirts, day-of registration, etc. Coverage is a bit spotty at this venue so we can’t guarantee a hot spot to be able to take debit and credit cards. Thank you!

We are getting everything sorted and organized for this weekend. Here is a peek at some of the items being raffled off in the Cat 3 raffle, as well as a look at the medals and Cat 2 prizes. Cat 3s – everyone will have a chance to enter the raffle after your race. There are some fun items being given away by BikeTown. You will want to hang out till the end of the raffle! At that point all Cat 3 riders will be able to put their number back in the box a second time for a chance to win a Park tool kit and repair stand.
