Bent Wheel Bash 2015 Results

Thank you to everyone who made the drive out to Abilene for Bent Wheel Bash. We have been involved with TMBRA for many years now, and have always appreciated how courteous and helpful this group is. Today was no exception. There were some outstanding displays of good sportsmanship out on the trail today. Thank you!

Here is the link to the results. Thanks again for coming out to Bent Wheel Bash.

Gate Fee – $5 per car – You will get a sticker for your windshield. This is good for the entire weekend – you only pay once.

Camping Fee – $20 per spot – Once again, this is for the entire weekend. So, if you camp you will end up paying $25 total (one camping spot and one car)

All the fees benefit the Abilene Police Department.

Bent Wheel Bash t-shirts are for sale in the registration building. They cost $15 and all proceeds benefit the Abilene Police Department.

We will have Bent Wheel Bash shirts for sale at the registration area. They are dark heather gray with a white and orange design. They are the super soft tee material so they feel great on. Raffle, Prizes, Medals

We are getting everything sorted and organized for this weekend. Here is a peek at some of the items being raffled off in the Cat 3 raffle, as well as a look at the medals and Cat 2 prizes. Cat 3s – everyone will have a chance to enter the raffle after your race. There are some fun items being given away by BikeTown. You will want to hang out till the end of the raffle! At that point all Cat 3 riders will be able to put their number back in the box a second time for a chance to win a Park tool kit and repair stand.

The weather has really warmed up this week. It looks like the trails will be in fantastic shape for this weekend. We look forward to seeing you there!

Food at the Venue and Other Pertinent Info

There will be food available at the race venue on Sunday only. Steak Express will have their food truck out there from 10:00 am until 3:30 pm on Sunday. They will be selling plates which include a hamburger, chips, and sweet tea for $8. They will also sell each item separately if you only want the tea, etc. The Abilene Police Department Bike Unit will have a concession stand open as well. They will be selling sports drinks and bottled water, as well as coffee and some breakfast burritos. We would love it if you buy food at the venue since this money directly benefits the Abilene Police Department Bike Unit and the Police Academy. However, if those items aren’t your cup of tea, there are several restaurants just a couple of miles away from the trails, including Chili’s, Jason’s Deli, Cracker Barrel, Chick-Fil-A, Taco Casa, Panda Express, and Golden Chick. These places are all located on Hwy 351. A few miles further down the road on Judge Ely Blvd., you can find Schlotzky’s, McAlister’s Deli, Rosa’s Cafe, Taco Bueno, Wholly Cow, and Lytle Land and Cattle.

There are a few guidelines that we have to follow since the APD is allowing us to use their grounds. If you are camping, the APD requests that you do not have any open fires. Gas grills are just fine, though. Also, dogs are welcome as long as they are leashed. Finally, since the venue is on the Police Academy training grounds, no alcohol is allowed. Thanks for understanding and following the guidelines!

Directions to Buck Creek Trails and the Police Academy

Buck Creek Trails are located in Abilene, TX on FM 2833 (East Lake Road), 1 1/2 miles north of Highway 351.  After you turn north on to FM 2833, you will pass a water treatment plant on your left at about the 1 1/2 mile mark. Approximately 1/2 mile after that, you will cross a bridge and then see the turn-in to the police academy on your right. It has a large blue gate with “Warren Dodson Police Training Center” on it. Look for signs and pennants posted at the academy entrance. If you reach the intersection of FM 2833 and Neas Road, you’ve gone too far north.

This entrance is only for Bent Wheel Bash, and is not the normal daily use gate.

When the actual physical address of the academy, 4557 East Lake Rd., is looked up on Google maps, it takes you to the wrong place (in the nearby lake), so just use these directions instead.

Thanks so much to all our sponsors of Bent Wheel Bash. Without them, this event would not happen! Take a minute and check out their websites. They are helping us raise money for the Abilene Police Department through their Bent Wheel Bash sponsorships, so we’d like to do all we can to get their names out to you guys.

Hotels and Camping

Primitive camping is available at the race venue. RVs and tents are both welcome. There are no electric or water hookups, but there are showers available. A campsite will cost $20. Gates open at 5:00 pm on Friday. The land access fee is $5 per car, not per person. You are only charged these fees once for the weekend, so the most you’ll pay if you camp is $25. No reservations are necessary for camping. Just show up.
