Bent Wheel Bash 2021 Schedule

Trail and Registration Update

The trails did NOT get rain last night. They are dry and ready to ride!

If you missed the preregistration deadline, you can register at the venue on Saturday from 1-5 or Sunday from 6:30am until 30 minutes before the start of your category. PLEASE allow extra time for registration and race plate pickup. Everything takes a little longer when Covid protocols are in place.

Water Update

The pipe has been fixed and water has been restored to the police academy! So this means indoor showers and bathrooms will be available at Bent Wheel Bash this weekend!

Remember – online registration closes tonight. Go register! We are looking forward to seeing everyone in Abilene this weekend!

Trail and Event Update

Many of you are probably wondering how the trails look after our week of wild winter weather in Texas. Thankfully, due to some good old West Texas wind, the trails are drying out nicely. Barring any unforeseen weather events this week, the trails should be in great shape for this weekend!

Bent Wheel Bash IS a go for this weekend. However, due to the freeze there is a busted pipe at the Police Academy building. It is on the list to be fixed, but we don’t know if it will be fixed by this weekend. If it isn’t fixed in time, we will not be able to offer the normal indoor shower and bathrooms. We will post an update here at the end of the week about the water pipe situation.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone at Bent Wheel Bash in Abilene this weekend!

Bent Wheel Bash 2021

The 2021 version of Bent Wheel Bash is almost here! Come join us in Abilene on February 27-28 for the 2nd race in the 2020 TMBRA spring championship series. Here’s a link to registration: Bent Wheel Bash 2021 Registration

If you would like to pre-order an event t-shirt, there is a place to do that when you register online at bikereg. Your size is guaranteed as long as you preorder the shirt by noon on February 19. The shirts will be available for pick-up at the registration area during race weekend.

For more info about the event, here’s a link to the race flyer: Bent Wheel Bash Flyer 2021.

For those who haven’t been to our event before – Bent Wheel Bash is a benefit race, so not only do you get to ride a fun course and experience a bit of West Texas, you also help support the Abilene Police Department. Their training academy is adjacent to Buck Creek Trails, and they open up their training grounds for us to use as the start, finish, and expo area for our race. The police also serve as many of our volunteer staff during race weekend.

Want to camp out next to the trails? You can do that. No reservations are necessary for camping. Just talk to the people at the gate and they’ll get you taken care of. Camping is $20 per site for one night or $30 for two nights. All other land use fees are taken care of in your race registration price. There are no hookups for campsites, but showers are available in the registration building. Both tents and RVs are welcome.

Dogs are welcome at Bent Wheel Bash. The police academy just requests that you keep them on a leash at all times. They also ask that you not have alcohol on police academy property. It’s an issue for them with the training facilities and insurance.

The Toasted Traveler food truck will be set up on Saturday from 12:00 – 6:00 and on Sunday from 10:00 – 3:00. They serve up some yummy food, so plan on grabbing a meal or two. They’ll be parked conveniently close to the awards area.

The physical address for the academy is Warren Dodson Training Facility, 4557 East Lake Road, Abilene, TX 79601. If you are headed north on East Lake Road (FM 2833), the blue gate at the entrance will be on your right. If you reach County Road 503 (Neas Road), you have gone a little too far north.

Bent Wheel Bash 2019 Results

Thanks so much to everyone who braved the weather and raced in Abilene at Bent Wheel Bash! We truly appreciate y’all coming out our way. Hopefully, everyone has had a chance to thaw out. We hope to see everyone back this way next year!

In case you didn’t get the link to the results, here it is: https://my4.raceresult.com/119058/?lang=en

Weather, Food, etc.

It is going to be a cold weekend, y’all! Bundle up and layer well, because the race goes on even in the cold and wet weather. Pre-riding is underway. The Specialized Demo Van will open at noon. The Toasted Traveler will arrive a bit earlier than the schedule shows. They will be up and ready to serve delicious, hot food at 11:30 today. They’ll be there until 6:00 tonight and then set back up at 10 tomorrow morning. Hot sandwiches sound perfect for this weekend’s weather!

**One thing to take note of – the Police Academy has graciously allowed us the use of their building for registration and bathrooms/showers. Their bathrooms use a septic system, so if things get a little muddy outside, PLEASE use the outside hoses to rid yourself of mud BEFORE you go to the showers. We know it will be cold, but mud in the drain will mess up their septic system. We don’t want to do that!

Also, if things get a bit muddy, please watch for the police volunteers to redirect parking. Just park where they show you.

One final note – cell service inside the registration building can be a bit sketchy. Take a screenshot of your current USAC license in case the app won’t work inside the building. It will save everyone time and frustration.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend!
